M/V AZUL BRISA TOPS BUFFET TABLE SETTING COMPETITION
Picking up where they left off in the Christmas Decoration contest, MV Azul Brisa’s Pasko Sa Barrio buffet setting was adjudged as the best among the best in this year’s Buffet Table Setting Competition.
Garnering an average score of 4.58 points, Azul Brisa narrowly edged MV White Kingdom by a slim .10 points to capture this year’s title.
Azul Brisa’s barrio-fiesta inspired table setting was a sight to behold as one can’t help but imagine being in an actual barrio, enjoying the hospitality and friendship of a small town where typically, one knows every individual who resides there, giving it a very quaint and personal feel.
Coming in at second was MV White Kingdom which finished with an average of 4.48 points while a distant third was MV Albany Pioneer which garnered an average of 4.05 points for its efforts.
The feast-for-the-senses competition were judged according to the following criteria:
Visual Appeal – 30%; Nutritional Value – 25%; Creativity and Originality- 25% and Execution – 20%.
What made the competition even more exciting was the fact that the participants were given certain set of limitations in preparing their mouth-watering settings. As part of the challenge, the challengers were only allowed to use ingredients that are already in the vessel. Purchase of additional materials and ingredients were disallowed. Similar to the made for TV cooking competitions like Iron Chef, the outputs were rated and graded on the spot by the judges. These limitations squeezed every creative juice from the chefs and their assistants.
With the win, MV Azul Brisa’s was able to take home the top prize of USD100 to the Vessel, USD100 to the Chef and USD75 to the messman for a total of USD275. MV White Kingdom won for themselves, a total of USD200 (75, 75, 50) for coming in second while MV Albany Pioneer took home USD125 (50,50, 25) for its third-place finish.
With this and the tightly-contested Christmas decoration competition, the next yuletide season will surely be a blast and even more mouth-watering.
