Exercise Scenario:
After vessel departed in Tanjung Bara port and pilot disembarked, a fire in main engine switchboard was reported thereafter vessel encountered black out and emergency generator was activated.
Shore side received second call from the Master and reported one minor casualty on board. WPR slightly hit the ladder hand rail and later was confirmed stable. At around 1028h fire out was declared by Master. Shore side instructed the vessel to isolate all power upon restoration, check if main line is damaged and remove the power line. While vessel is preparing to stop engine, vessel reported that anchor was unable to drop. Shore side informed Master to prepare for possible grounding and cut the stopper bar to be able to drop the anchor.
1054h vessel’s power was restored, grounded with minimal water ingress and anchor was dropped. Shore side instructed vessel to secure vessel from swinging by dropping two anchors.
Shore side instructed the crew to stand by and wait for the PIC of different agencies contacted to rescue the vessel and crew on board.
Observation & Recommendations:
Drill was carried out successfully. And vessel was able to control main engine fire and restored power. Emergency communication flow was smoothly coordinated. Black out was not restored immediately, instead, crew made it sure that vessel will only have minimal or minor water ingress when grounded.
All drill components that were tested eventually met and discussed.
